Building a relationship with Interim Partners

Thank you for registering your details with Interim Partners. We hope to work with the very best interim managers in the UK and build long term relationships with them. To help us achieve this goal please consider these further steps that will allow you to successfully engage with our business.

Partner with one of our consultants.
After you have registered we hope you will build a relationship with us. If you are a successful interim manager and you have experience of working in large complex organisations within the sectors we operate in we would like to meet with you. It is important to note that we do not introduce interim managers to our clients until we have met them face-to-face. Therefore it will be essential to partner with one of our consultants who will then be in a position to represent you to both their clients, their colleagues and provide feedback if you have been unsuccessful when applying for an assignment. If we have not contacted you post registration, please consider that we are a small business and proactively promote yourself by contacting the most appropriate consultant from our meet the team page.

Understand your own proposition
Whether you are new or a seasoned executive interim director it is very important that you understand your proposition. You will need to be able to clearly communicate why you are a specialist, what make you unique and why you may be better placed to deliver an assignment than another interim manager. When we see new CV’s and covering letters we are less interested in the CV’s story (where you have been) but far more interested and excited about what you have achieved. Please provide this type of definition – the size and scope of the organisations you have worked with, how you made an immediate impact, what you achieved and if possible demonstrate the clients return on investment.

Experience outside of our market place?
We do not work across all sectors and we recognise that there are many excellent interim managers who are generalists with broad experience; however, our model is to be sector specialists. If we do not have a consultant that operates in a market that matches your experience we will be less successful in assisting you, although we hope to continue to grow and broaden our service to all interim managers in the near future.

Email Alerts
The value for our clients is that we already know many of the most appropriate interim managers and can respond quickly but we do not rely solely on a database. Many of our assignments are posted on our website and we also advertise on other external websites. We advertise because we continually seek to develop our network, attract new interim managers and to engage with successful IM’s who may not have worked with us in the past. Receiving an alert does not mean you have already been overlooked – it is to keep you informed of our current activity. Assignments are published only when we have our client’s permission and we provide this transparency because our interim mangers requested it. We do not pre-qualify who receives email alerts as your preferences are noted at registration. This means some alerts may not be appropriate for you. Our aim is to get the balance right between informing the market and maintaining client confidentiality. If an alert is not of interest, please delete it or forward it to someone in your network who may appreciate it.

New to interim management?
Interim providers gravitate to interim managers who have significant experience. The market is extremely competitive so we recommend that your search for an assignment is broad. Our consultants do try to meet as many new candidates as possible and they will contact new interim managers and arrange to meet them, however, they are not in a position to meet everyone, especially if they consider your experience to be outside of the sectors we operate within. If we are unable to meet you at the outset, we suggest that you continue to keep in touch, review our assignments and approach us for a meeting when your skills and experience match one of our advertised assignments. On becoming an interim manager, you will also need to build your network- you will not be able to rely on one channel to market so contact past employers and arrange to meet a number of interim service providers. To identify other interim providers choose only those that are full members of the Interim Management Association. We do not recommend non IMA members because they may not promote you effectively or adhere to a strict code of conduct. Please see www.interimmanagement.uk.com.

Ensure you have references available.
Should we identify a suitable assignment for you we will need to undertake due diligence on your experience, qualifications and suitability. The nature of these checks will vary depending on our clients, however, the minimum requirement will be references covering your last five years of your assignments and employment. We may also be required to make financial and criminal checks. Your consultant will provide clarity on what will be needed so please ensure you can provide this information swiftly.

On assignment
To work with our business you must have limited company status – Ltd. We do not provide a PAYE service for those new to interim management. When paying our interim managers we take the credit risk. Your invoice will be paid within 14 days of the month end providing you have successfully followed our processes. We do not offer a different payment timescale, for example weekly payments. All our placed interim managers will be contractually obliged to complete information on-line and use our IP Connect portal. This allows us to generate invoices to our clients and to monitor and track the assignment goals.

Using LinkedIn and our blogs
Our assignments, blogs and news are automatically posted from our website via an RSS feed to our LinkedIn Group. We use LinkedIn as another channel to market because we believe you will review the LinkedIn website more frequently than our own. Should you see an assignment alert on LinkedIn please be aware that this is a link that you will need to click on that which will draw you back to our own site so you can apply for it. Please do not post a comment on LinkedIn suggesting that you are interested as we will not recognise this as an application. Instead please ensure you make all applications via our own website. We hope our blogs are both fun and informative. They are designed to attract attention, take a view point and to encourage dialogue but not to be deliberately contentious or offensive. Please take them in the good spirit that they are intended and feel free to contribute your thoughts and ideas.

Thank you for registering your details, we will look forward to working with you.

Kind Regards
Debbie Norman
