Further Assistance

If you are seeking to embark upon a career in Interim management you may need further assistance to in establishing yourself as an Interim Manager. To the right are links to additional useful resources.

A Marketing Workshop to develop Interim Managers

The workshop, run by Results-in-Business Ltd in partnership with the Interim Management Association, is much more than a presentation of facts. It provides an interactive means of helping delegates understand how to define and write their value proposition and market (sell) themselves more productively. For example, they have had experienced people attending who have previously only operated in a narrow field and want to know how to break out; others who have been successful abroad and now want to better understand the UK market; and yet others who want to learn more about how to alternatively ply their trade in either the public or private sectors respectively. These are just examples of the types of experienced candidates who have benefited from this outstanding course.

We encourage you to take a look. For details, read more...

Can all potential candidates interested in attending one of these courses please quote 'Interim Partners' in the referred by section on the web registration form.

Tax Efficient Payroll Solutions

There is no "one size fits all" solution. Individual circumstances vary and may require different solutions. Level of seniority, industry sector and where you work (UK overseas, off shore) are just some of the factors that should be taken into account.

Futurelink Payroll Services was established over 11 years ago with the aim of providing a complete range of employment services which include: Single Owner Limited Companies, Umbrella PAYE, and Sole Trader.

As specialists in the industry they can advise you on which solution will best suit your circumstances and expectations.

There are various payroll options you can consider, but there are two that should meet your contractual needs. Both will afford the Interim Manager a high retention of gross yearly salary.

  1. Single Owner Limited Companies - IR35 compliant solution
You would be the director of your own limited company, either purchased off the shelf, or ready made for your use. Your income is split into two portions; 1) Salary based on the National Minimum Wage (currently £5.52 an hour or £11,482 a year) which is fully taxed along with National Insurance deductions. 2) The remainder of your salary is paid in the form of Dividends which is subject to 19% Corporation Tax. There are several ways to offset your income with business expenses, thereby reducing profit. For further information please visit www.futurelink.co.uk/pagebuilder.asp?id=57
  2. Payscheme Plus - Umbrella PAYE structure which can give you up to 90% of your income.
A similar solution to Single Owner Company option, except with a higher base salary, commensurate to your gross salary. This would be fully taxed along with National Insurance contributions. The remainder is treated as a loan, which does not attract tax or NI. The loans are made bonefide as we charge interest, 1% above the Bank of England base rate and loans are never written off. The Interim can expect to retain between 83-91% in hand which included tax, NI, fees etc.

Limiting Liability

Life's getting riskier for Britain's managers and directors. Are you adequately covered?

Smart & Cook provides professional insurance broking, financial advice and risk management services, and is now recognised as one of the UK’s leading independent insurance organisations, with a national network of 28 regional offices.

In April 2007 Smart & Cook was acquired by global company AXA, to create the UK’s second largest SME insurance broker with a combined 1,200 staff and £400m of premiums.

Managing risk is a key facet of all directors and managers but often personal liabilities are overlooked. As regulations aimed at protecting the rights of employees are tightened and a US-style culture of corporate litigation filters over the Atlantic, modern managers and directors are much more likely to find themselves facing legal action for a wide variety of matters, including:-

  • Compliance with regulation
  • Financial management
  • Health and safety
  • Employment practices
  • Mergers and acquisitions

Such actions can be initiated by an alarmingly lengthy list of individuals or organisations, including:-

  • Current or former employees for such allegations as harassment, discrimination, or wrongful dismissal
  • Regulatory bodies for non-compliance
  • Customers, suppliers and creditors, for allegations of financial impropriety
  • Shareholders dissatisfied with the company’s performance
  • Pressure groups making allegations of illegality or misbehaviour
  • Auditors and liquidators

That is a lot of exposure and a lot of risk. Would you be financially protected in the event of legal action, or even an award for damages?
