Interim Opportunities

For all those contract workers utilizing a wide variety of umbrella and composite companies - there has been a rude awakening! Chancellor, Gordon Brown’s pre-Budget speech in December 2006 unveiled new proposals to remove the tax advantages that composite and managed service companies can offer their clients.

Commentary by Doug Baird, Managing Director, Interim Partners

There are some clearly defined sectors that are fuelling this growth statistic. These tend to be sectors that are being directly affected by increased business and regulatory compliance dynamics. Research by Ipsos Mori on behalf of the Interim Management Association (IMA) found that two thirds of the 1300 assignments assessed were in the private sector with chemical/pharmaceuticals accounting for 15%, banking and finance for 14%, manufacturing at 13%, business services at 12%, retail 10% and IT/telecoms 9%. These are all industry sectors that have experienced more onerous regulatory pressures over the past few years.
