Key lessons from the NHS Savile investigation

Interim Partners Healthcare Practice is hosting a breakfast seminar on 22nd November.

nhs savile investigation

Governance and Compliance remain a top priority for both Public Sector and Private Care Organisations. Dr Sue Proctor, who led the Leeds investigation into matters relating to Jimmy Savile, will distil the findings of an investigation of over 50 years of abuse into key organisational risks relevant to modern healthcare provision.

Using evidence from the investigation, and from the wider literature on attributes of safer health care organisations, she will propose actions to mitigate such risks.

About the speaker

Sue holds a portfolio of roles, including Chair of the Safeguarding Board for the Diocese of York and Lay Member of the Lord Chancellor’s Advisory Committee for the North & West Yorkshire Magistracy. She spent seven years as an Executive Director in former Strategic Health Authorities and a stint as Deputy Chief Nursing Officer for England.

In 2012, Sue was asked to lead the major NHS investigation into matters relating to Jimmy Savile at Leeds Teaching Hospitals. Following this, she was asked to set up the Savile Legacy Unit at the Department of Health to oversee 16 further NHS investigations. She has since led investigations into ‘historic abuse’ in other sectors, including the church and independent schools.

Interim Partners will be putting together some workshops with Sue for any attendees and/or their team colleagues to consult on this subject at a later date.
