The Challenge of a lifetime! - The Iceland Hiking Challenge 2009
On 1st August 2009 our very own Senior Consultant Sally Wilson and her partner Barry Hughes, will embark on a 100km trek across Iceland for Macmillan cancer support. Providing just a bit of a physical and mental test, the journey will see them trekking across Icelandic volcanoes, mountains and springs taking them from the active Mount Hekla to Landmannalaugar and then on through mountains to the permanent icecaps of Myrdals and Eyjafjallajokull.
Whilst the trip will be self funded, they are aiming to raise £5,000 between them for Macmillan Cancer support, which will go towards providing practical, medical, emotional and financial support to individuals and families affected by cancer.
A bit of an outdoor enthusiast, Sally chose to complete this challenge with Macmillan due to the wonderful support they provide to those who have been effected by cancer and the campaigning they do to improve the care and treatment of those sufferers.
Sally comments, "Barry and I thought what better way to spend our summer than by trekking across volcanoes and raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support in the process. Although looking at the slightly daunting itinerary, I sometimes think we must be mad!"
"We are also looking forward to getting our friends, family, businesses and anyone who wants to get involved in the fund raising process"
As well as completing a series of half marathons throughout the next 12 months they are also inviting people to join them at a number of events, including hosting a Gala Dinner in the spring and a treasure hunt in the summer, full details can be found on their website http://www.help-us-raise-5000.4t.com which will be constantly updated with pictures and information about the events.
The duo are also in the process of writing to business to ask for donations and prizes for raffles and auctions which will be held at their events. A website has been set up where any donations will be extremely welcomed: http://www.justgiving.com/wilson-hughes.
